Founded in Espoo in 2021, DecorumLS is a Finnish EN ISO 17100 certified company specialising in translation and language consulting. The company’s name, Decorum, comes from teachings in ancient rhetoric, and refers to a speaker’s ability to adopt the style required of the character he or she is presenting. This also applies to the translation sector, as one of the most important tasks of a linguist is to be able to distinguish between different styles: Am I translating a manual for a hybrid car, a medical research report or a compendium of poems? Tuomas Renvall, the company’s founder, has translated several books, both fiction and non-fiction.

Translation
We translate raw text into your preferred languages within the agreed timescale. We ensure that the work is done by a qualified professional translator. It is particularly important for us to provide the client with a human-translated text. We use the best translation systems on the market to help ensure the consistency of both terminology and content, and to be able to work with maximum efficiency. At the same time, these systems help us to fully engage with the client.
Is your company interested in utilising machine translation? As specialists in the field, we do not recommend machine-assisted translation as a matter of principle. Machines do not necessarily understand double meanings, and they may not detect typographical errors in the source text. They may be tripped up by the strange inflectional forms of the Finnish language. Machine translation is above all an easy way to transfer text, but the user still has too few ways of ensuring that important information is not lost. If, however, you would like to try out translation performed by an application, we can recommend a program and offer post-editing of what the machine has done. In the worst case, officialese can look very unprofessional. You wouldn’t want to expose yourself to that kind of risk, would you?
